A frozen source image while audio and controls continue

A frozen picture can originate in the feed or in the decoder. Read the explanation, worked example and practical next steps in the Pro Max journal.

Playback and display

The answer, with the useful detail.

A frozen picture can originate in the feed or in the decoder. If controls remain responsive and audio continues, the whole box has not necessarily crashed. Compare another item and, where practical, the same feed on a second supported client. Check whether the progress time and audio advance beyond the frozen picture, then compare the same content on another compatible client. That separates a source delivering repeated imagery from a local decoder that has stopped presenting newly received pictures.

Check the scope

One source failing is narrower than every video freezing. Open another known working item without changing the display connection. If only one feed freezes while other video plays, the whole display and decoder are not necessarily unusable. If every item freezes after the same period, inspect the local app and device more closely. A responsive interface is useful evidence, but does not by itself prove whether video packets are still arriving or whether the source picture itself has stopped changing.

Watch the timeline

Continuing media time can distinguish a still image from a total pause. Observe the media timeline, any visible source clock and whether the soundtrack continues naturally. A feed can transmit new segments that contain a repeated still image while its audio progresses, so advancing playback time alone does not prove changing video content. Conversely, a local rendering failure can leave the last good frame on screen. Record these observations separately instead of reducing them all to the statement that the television has crashed.

Collect a repeatable point

The source operator needs the item and time. Use the exact title and scene timestamp for recorded material, or real-world time with time zone for live content. If another supported client shows the same frozen image at the same content point, include that comparison. If reopening playback restores motion temporarily, state how long the recovery lasts. The source operator or app developer can then inspect the relevant layer without needing private account credentials or a broad factory reset to reproduce the symptom.

An example to work through

A live camera feed holds one frame while the programme audio continues for several seconds. A second client shows the same stationary studio image while the commentary continues, whereas another channel moves normally. This gives the operator evidence about the affected feed's video rather than supporting a claim that the first television or the entire home internet connection has stopped working.

Questions about this topic

Does this prove no internet?

No. Audio, interface and network activity can continue while only the picture stops changing.

Should the entireTV be reset?

Start with the narrower comparison. Compare the affected source and app first so useful configuration is retained.
