Allow one installer on Android TV instead of opening every source

On Android versions that provide per-application installation permission, allow only the specific installer you intend to use.

The answer, with the useful detail.

On Android versions that provide per-application installation permission, allow only the specific installer you intend to use. Review the displayed application name and turn that permission off after the task when it is no longer needed. Enabling installation permission does not verify an APK’s publisher or contents. The permission controls which application may hand packages to Android's installer. The later installation confirmation remains a separate decision about the particular package, its source and its requested access on that device.

Permission belongs to the installing app

A browser, downloader or file manager may request permission to launch the package installer. Giving that permission to one app is different from granting it to every application on the television. Read the application named in the permission prompt rather than assuming the file manager and browser share one setting. If you change download methods halfway through, a different installer may need its own authorisation. Older Android versions can present this control differently, so use the labels actually shown on your television rather than enabling unrelated developer options from another guide.

Inspect the source first

Confirm where the installer file came from and whether the publisher documents that route. A short code or a familiar icon does not independently establish the identity of the file being installed. Follow the publisher's supported address directly and inspect the downloaded file before proceeding. A page that redirects to unrelated software or asks for extra utilities is a reason to stop and recheck the route. Installation permission is only a gate in the operating system; it does not establish that a file has the expected package identity or compatible platform requirements.

Close the temporary route

After installation, revoke the installer permission if you do not need it for regular updates. The installed player normally remains installed; the permission controls later installation attempts from that source. Return to the permission screen and check the named source after the player has installed. Revoking permission should restrict later package installation from that utility without removing the player itself. For future manual updates, repeat the source and package checks before temporarily allowing the installer again; a previously legitimate download route should still be checked when its behaviour changes.

An example to work through

Allowing a trusted file manager for one APK installation does not require leaving a browser and every other utility authorised to install packages. After the file installs, reopen the permission page and revoke that file manager's access if it is no longer needed. Confirm the player still launches from the normal apps list.

Questions about this topic

Does Allow from this source mean the APK was security-tested?

No. It is permission to initiate installation, not a security certification.

Does revoking the permission uninstall the player?

No. It prevents future installations from that source unless permission is granted again.
