A useful screenshot preserves the error message and relevant field labels while hiding passwords, account URLs, device keys and personal notifications. Redaction should happen in the image file itself before sharing. A page overlay or a temporary crop in an editor does not always remove the original sensitive pixels.
Identify every private area
Look beyond the password box. Usernames, MAC addresses, activation keys, QR codes and playlist query strings can also identify or authorize an account. Check the status bar and background notifications too.
Keep enough context
A screenshot with every field hidden can become impossible to interpret. Keep the app name, nonsecret screen title and exact error visible. Replace private values with neutral labels rather than publishing a live example.
Export and inspect the final file
Save a flattened redacted copy, reopen that copy and inspect it before sending. Use a neutral filename. Do not attach the untouched original alongside the edited version or leave it publicly accessible at the old URL.

An example to work through
A login screenshot can show “Invalid account” and the player name while replacing the username and server query with solid redaction blocks.
