The answer, with the useful detail.

Before transferring a television or streaming box, remove household accounts, provider logins and private files using the manufacturer’s supported reset process. Unplugging the device does not erase its stored information. Also review any provider or player account that lets you revoke devices remotely. Treat configuration backups and removable drives as part of the handover review. Erasing the internal device through supported controls does not necessarily erase a USB copy of an account-bearing playlist left attached to it.

Inventory the information stored

A player can contain provider credentials, playlist URLs, viewing history and configuration backups. The device may also hold app-store and household accounts unrelated to streaming. Review local download folders, exported backups, playlist files and attached USB storage as well as the player interface. A masked password field does not mean the underlying configuration contains no usable credentials. Identify what belongs on your replacement device and what should be removed, while keeping receipts or records you still need in a separate private location.

Remove local access

Back up only what you need privately, sign out where appropriate and perform the documented reset before handing over the hardware. Confirm that the device returns to its initial setup screen. Follow the manufacturer's reset sequence for the exact device, then inspect the result without signing back into your account. An initial setup screen helps confirm local user configuration has been removed. Remove or separately handle removable storage before transfer, and do not leave a printed recovery code, saved password note or paired account instructions inside the packaging.

Review remote entitlements

Some publishers provide a device list or remote sign-out control. Use those supported account tools where available, and ask the provider about account security if a credential-bearing backup was left behind. Review the account-management pages you actually use, including player licence devices and the provider's supported sessions or device controls. Removing local data and revoking a remote entitlement are different tasks. If credentials may have been exposed, recover or change them through the responsible service's legitimate route rather than assuming that unplugging the old hardware invalidated every saved copy.

An example to work through

A box left unplugged in a cupboard can still retain its player login and household store account when someone powers it on later. Before handing it over, retain your recovery details elsewhere, remove attached private storage and complete the supported reset. Then verify its setup screen and review available remote account controls for the old device.

Questions about this topic

Is removing the home-screen tile enough?

No. A launcher shortcut is not the stored application data.

Should I include my player backup with a sold device?

No. Backups may contain private configuration or access details.
