The answer, with the useful detail.

Not every device sold as an Android TV box includes Google Play or the certified Android TV experience. Identify the manufacturer, model and software before choosing an installation route. A missing store is not something that a streaming provider subscription can add to the device. Confirm whether the device has a manufacturer-supported update and application source. Installing an arbitrary store package does not necessarily provide Google certification, the required background services or a reliable television interface.

Read the platform description critically

A box may run a tablet-style Android build adapted for HDMI output. Its store, updates and remote interface can differ from a certified television platform even if the packaging uses similar words. Look for the complete model number in Settings and the manufacturer's support documentation rather than relying on the retailer's title. Distinguish Android operating-system version from Android TV certification. A tablet interface displayed on a television can lack a remote-friendly launcher, and support for one sideloaded application does not establish compatibility with every app or subscription service.

Use supported distribution only

If the manufacturer documents a direct-install route, follow it for the particular device. Do not install random packages claiming to add the entire Google services framework as a prerequisite for one player. A direct APK can be appropriate only when its publisher and the device support that route. Confirm the package minimum version and input requirements before installation. Avoid replacing system components merely to make an unsupported store launch; doing so can introduce account and update problems without resolving the original player's dependence on services absent from the device firmware.

Consider the maintenance cost

A low-cost box with unclear firmware support may require more troubleshooting than a supported streaming device. Compatibility includes usable updates and navigation, not simply whether an APK opens once. Check whether the household can recover the device if its current setup fails: obtain official reset instructions and retain source configuration privately. Test directional navigation and a representative authorised stream before relying on the box for everyday viewing. If software support is unclear, compare the time and reliability costs of continued workarounds with an explicitly supported device.

An example to work through

A generic box can show an Android settings screen while lacking the Play Store and the TV-specific app catalogue available on a certified Google TV device. Use the exact model to check supported installation routes rather than trying to copy the store from another box. A compatible direct player may be possible, but certification and service support remain separate questions.
