Add the bandwidth of the streams you are authorised to run, then allow for other household traffic. This is capacity planning; it does not change an account’s connection allowance.
An estimate, not a speed guarantee.
The calculator adds stream count × bitrate to the other traffic allowance, then adds 20%. One 10 Mbps stream and 5 Mbps of other traffic produce an 18 Mbps planning estimate. The 20% margin is a chosen allowance, not a service requirement or a promise of uninterrupted playback.
Wi-Fi signal quality, packet loss, device performance and the route to the source can still affect viewing. A speed-test headline alone does not measure all of them.
