A signed URL is an address carrying information that lets a server validate access to a resource. Its signature can cover the path, expiry time and other conditions selected by the service. The server checks these values before returning media or a file. Someone who copies the address may sometimes use it while it remains valid, so handle it as an access secret. A signature is not encryption, and its presence does not prove a website or offer is trustworthy. Exact restrictions depend on the implementation; not every signed link uses the same format or lifetime.
Signed URL and Permanent playlist
A temporary signed media address is not necessarily a stable account playlist endpoint.
Why an old working link fails
A service can issue a short-lived address after an account request and refuse it once its validity window ends. A bookmark or cached playlist can therefore fail while the subscription remains active. Normal recovery uses the supported refresh or sign-in process to obtain a new authorized link, rather than editing its apparent expiry value.
Rewriting can invalidate the signature
The signature can depend on exact request components. Removing parameters, changing a path or passing an address through a rewriting tool may make verification fail. A readable timestamp is only one part of the access control. Altering it does not generate a replacement signature or extend access that the server has authorized.
Describe the failure without leaking access
Give the failure time, whether a fresh catalogue request succeeds and any visible response code. Complete signed addresses can contain reusable secrets, so remove them from screenshots and exported logs. A correctly integrated player should obtain new authorized addresses when its source requires them; persistent renewal faults belong with the responsible service or publisher.
An illustrative example
A player opens a signed address at 20:00. A saved copy is retried the following day and rejected. Refreshing the supported source may produce a new address. The stale-link failure alone does not establish that the account password is wrong or the subscription has ended.
Practical actions
- Refresh through the supported source workflow once.
- Keep the device clock accurate for expiry-sensitive requests.
- Report time and response code without the signature.
