Streaming data usage calculator
Estimate decimal gigabytes from bitrate and viewing time. Useful for planning data-capped home and mobile connections.

How much data does viewing use?
Data use depends on the actual average bitrate and time played. Enter your own estimate rather than assuming that every 4K, HD or live source uses one fixed rate.
Bitrate × time.
The estimate uses Mbps × 0.45 × hours × days to produce decimal gigabytes. For example, 8 Mbps for two hours per day over 30 days is about 216 GB before overhead. Variable bitrate, retries, adverts and background downloads can change the actual total.
A provider’s usage counter is the relevant measure for a capped connection. Use the calculator to plan, then compare the estimate with the meter for the connection you actually use.
