A TV app disappears from the launcher after installation

An installed application can be missing from the home-screen row because of launcher ordering, profile restrictions or the absence of a TV launcher entry.

TV apps

The answer, with the useful detail.

An installed application can be missing from the home-screen row because of launcher ordering, profile restrictions or the absence of a TV launcher entry. Check the complete installed-apps list before downloading it again. If it is a phone-only build, a launcher shortcut will not solve its underlying TV-interface limitations. Avoid uninstalling a working configuration just to recreate a tile. First establish whether the package is present, whether your current profile exposes it and whether its publisher supplies a proper television interface.

Look beyond the first row

Home screens often show a limited selection of apps. The full Apps list and system app-information screen establish whether the package is actually present. If the app appears under system Settings, inspect its name, version and any available Open action. Launching from there can distinguish an absent shortcut from an absent package. If Settings has no matching application either, review whether installation completed successfully on this device rather than assuming a file download or store confirmation means the app is present.

Check the current profile

A household or child profile may expose a different set of applications. Verify that you are using the same profile used when the app was configured. Return to the profile normally used for viewing and compare its full apps list. An adult installation can remain hidden by child-profile controls, and a household profile switch can change visible shortcuts. Make any approval change through the authorised adult settings. Do not bypass family restrictions by installing an unknown launcher merely because it displays more applications.

Assess the build itself

A sideloaded phone app may not declare the launcher entry expected by Android TV. Obtain the publisher’s TV edition where available instead of interpreting a missing tile as a provider-account problem. A launcher tile depends on information the app provides to the system; copying an icon does not add remote navigation or platform support. If the app only opens through a workaround, test login and playback controls before committing to it. Prefer a supported TV edition and retain existing source details before removing a phone build that stores them locally.

An example to work through

An app installed from a phone-oriented APK can appear in Settings but not in the television’s ordinary launcher row. Check the system app-information page and try its supported Open action. If the phone build lacks a usable remote interface, obtain the publisher's TV edition rather than repeatedly downloading the same APK.

Questions about this topic

Does a missing tile always mean the app was uninstalled?

No. The package can still be present in the installed-apps settings.

Will downloading a second copy always create a tile?

No. The same package may retain the same launcher behaviour.
