In an extended M3U channel list, an #EXTINF metadata line usually describes the stream URL on the following line. The name, grouping and artwork belong to that pair. A missing URL or an extra pasted address can shift the association, causing the visible channel name to launch the wrong item.
Treat the two lines as a unit
When editing a personal playlist, move or remove the metadata and its stream address together. Sorting individual lines alphabetically breaks that relationship. Blank lines may be tolerated by some readers, but they are not a substitute for an actual stream URL.
Keep display labels separate from addresses
The text after the metadata separator is usually the visible label. Changing it can make your personal list easier to browse, while changing the URL changes what the player requests. Neither operation should be confused with changing the upstream broadcast.
Use a tiny local sample for diagnosis
A copy containing two authorized entries is easier to inspect than a large list. If those entries import correctly, compare their structure with the problematic section. Do not post the sample publicly if its addresses include credentials.

An example to work through
If the line labelled News is followed by the Sports stream address, selecting News will request Sports. The visible name does not override the URL underneath it.
Questions about this topic
Can I sort playlist lines directly?
Only if your tool preserves complete entry blocks.
Will changing the display name change the broadcast?
No. The requested stream address determines the source.
