A duration of -1 is commonly used in IPTV channel playlists to represent a stream without a fixed file duration. It does not mean the channel expired yesterday or that the account has a negative balance. Extended M3U channel conventions differ from the timed media segments used inside an HLS media playlist.
Distinguish a channel list from HLS segments
A channel list might point to a continuous live source. An HLS media playlist describes a sequence of timed media pieces. The same tag name appears in both contexts, but interpreting an IPTV entry as a finite HLS segment leads to the wrong diagnosis.
Do not use duration as account status
The subscription expiry shown by the service, where provided, is a separate account value. Editing -1 to a large positive number does not extend access. A player may display the duration field differently or ignore it for live television.
Preserve working conventions
If an imported list already works, there is little benefit in rewriting every duration. For a personal list, follow the parser documentation of the player you use. Treat unexpected labels as a display issue before replacing valid stream addresses.

An example to work through
A live news entry with #EXTINF:-1 can remain available throughout an active subscription. The -1 value does not count down toward the renewal date.
Questions about this topic
Can I extend a plan by editing this number?
No. Access is controlled by the service account.
Is -1 a universal M3U rule?
It is a common IPTV convention, not a guarantee of identical behavior in every reader.
